How to Cook Kare Kare


Ingredients
  • 1 kilo of beef (round or sirloin cut) cut into cubes, beef tripe or oxtail (cut 2 inch long) 
  • 3 1/4 cups of peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup grounded toasted rice
  • 1/2 cup cooked bagoong alamang (anchovies)
  • 3 pieces onions, diced
  • 3 heads of garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons atsuete oil
  • 5 pieces eggplant,1 inch thick
  • 2 cups of Pechay (Bok choy) cut into pieces
  • 2 cups of sitaw (string beans) cut into pieces
  • 1 banana bud, 1 inch thick
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 8 cups of water
  • Salt 
Instructions
  • Boil beef, tripe and oxtails in water  until cooked in a stock pot. Strain and keep it stock.
  • Heat oil and atsuete oil in a big pan.
  • Sauté garlic, onions until golden brown, then add the stock, toasted rice and peanut butter. Boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Salt to taste.
  • Then add the string beans, eggplant,pechay and banana bud. Cook the vegetables. Do not overcook the vegetables.
  • Serve with bagoong and hot plain rice.
